About

Hello!  Thank you for visiting my webpage.  My name is Christina Brockmöller and I'm the founder of Piano with Christina.

My mission is to create a safe and inclusive space at the piano through music, where individuals can learn, create, grow, and envision a brighter future.  Music possesses the extraordinary ability to unite people within our local communities, bridge divides among nations and inspire positive change.  Music can play a crucial role in promoting social justice in our constantly evolving world.

While mastering the piano demands commitment and hard work, the benefits are significant: my students develop into confident and skilled musicians. They enjoy numerous performance opportunities throughout the year, including festivals, competitions, and international exchanges.

I have a background in Alexander and Taubman technique and will sometimes incorporate it into the lessons.  To promote independent learning for my younger beginners, parental involvement must be limited during home practice, ensuring that parents do not teach at the bench or bring in other tutors.  This approach fosters creativity, confidence, and self-efficacy in my students.

Throughout the musical journey, students engage with musicianship, sight-reading, technique, and various aspects of piano study.  As they advance, students work on more challenging pieces by composers like Chopin, Beethoven, and Liszt, alongside new music and contemporary works that incorporate digital compositions and extended techniques.

She is a native of the Pacific Northwest and felt a gravitational pull toward the piano at age five.  After this she progressed swiftly with natural musical instincts and a passion.  Christina took a hiatus from classical piano performance career for seven years to pursue work in the medical field, but her desire for a career in music was irresistible.

Christina is former New York University adjunct piano faculty member.  She graduated in January 2020 with a Master’s degree in Piano Performance from NYU Steinhardt.  She lived in the heart of New York City and thrived in the vibrancy of the city while performing solo concerts and and collaborating with various groups such as Mirror Vision Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, and performed with the Open Structures dance group with choreographer Douglas Dunn.  Christina has a bachelor’s degree in piano from the University of Washington.  She has collaborated with many groups such as the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra as guest pianist at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA.  She has had many piano teachers and mentors throughout her lifetime.  One of her mentors was Vladimir Horowitz's last student.

Christina currently resides in Seattle, WA.  Her most recent performance was in 2024 with Karin Kirkland School of Dance which featured Armenian national ballet dances, performed at the Meydenbauer Theatre in Bellevue, WA,  In May 2023, she collaborated with the City Opera Ballet performing at the Veteran’s Affairs Memorial in Seattle, WA, where she performed her own piano transcription of Tchaivkovsky's Poppyseed.  In March 2023, Christina performed  in Rome, Italy, in a piano concert masterclass series with 10 pianists from 7 different nations.  She is an in demand pianist and adjudicator.

Christina is currently working on a set of recordings, live collaborative and solo performances, and building a portfolio of pedagogical materials and compositions.  She is passionate about music and human rights causes.  Her work is driven by her strong beliefs and unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the world.  In her leisure time she cherishes time with friends, and she finds joy in dancing, yoga, and exploring the breathtaking natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Testimonials

"I've had the pleasure of knowing Christina for a  several years now and she is by far the kindest,  most patient, and overall greatest piano teacher  I've ever had.  Not only is she incredibly skilled  herself, but she also takes the time to sit down  and teach you each scale properly, one by one,  and she allows you to choose the types of  songs and music you'd like to learn!  To this day, I still remember everything Christina has taught  me.  Thank you for being a wonderful teacher"!
